Mathematics is a core subject of the National Curriculum and basic skills are practised daily in each year group. Children are encouraged to work mentally, to be confident with numbers and the ways in which numbers can be manipulated. Children have the opportunity to solve problems and to apply the mathematical knowledge, which they have acquired. The National Numeracy Framework is an integral part of planning and assessment within mathematics.
